Day One at the Village Hall Demolition Derby

Volunteers rolled in en masse and work was soon underway to cut out the floor, which was deftly transported to the skip. The joists took no time to dismantle and assemble outside, whilst acres - or so it seemed - of insulation was stuffed into bags.

It really was a sight to behold - everyone gelled as a team and was abley supported by the "crack team of caterers" who having practised on the crowds at the Horticultural Show yesterday took today in their stride.

By lunchtime the work was done and everyone downed tools for a well earned lunch.

Whilst there is no work to be done on Monday - volunteers are required from Tuesday to start bringing in the hardcore - so if you are Hard Core enough - please give Martin a call on 07773 406280!

Thanks to the following who were absolutely fantastic today:

Shawn Terry / Barry Sobey / Alex Love / Katy Love / Mike Stevens / Irene Shoubridge / David Shoubridge /Les Owen / Marion Owen / Mike Willison / Chris Reeve / Gill Pearce / Peter Howard / David Ivell / Earl Terris /Pete Bousfield / Jen Bousfiled / Sam Thomas / Pete Staples / Marina Staples / Brian Ruby/ John / Steve / Andy

Apologies if anyone has been missed........... and finally..........

Whilst Susan Boggis had her barrow and gloves at the ready, unfortunately her plans to help were cut short after a fall whilst out walking Maisie - her dog. Her legs were literally knocked from under her by one of Maisie's playmates and she is now in Derriford with a broken leg. I know you are all wondering which dog..... yes it was Otis! I know that everyone will want to wish Susan all the best and a speedy recovery.

30 April 2011 - Bean Pole Event

19 March 2011 - Dog Walk

On Saturday 19th March a small but select group enjoyed a lovely walk from the Village Hall up Hawks Tor. It was a lovely bright day but the breeze was chilly. All the dogs got on famously, although Bonnie was more interested in playing with the rabbits than her new friends!
Marina, Pete and Senna made a lovely contribution of delicious lemon drizzle cake, which was enjoyed by everyone, including the hounds.
Thanks everyone for making it a lovely walk, great company as ever.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding where we might venture in the future, please contact Jaine Hynes on 01566 782734.

P.S. You don't have to have a dog to join the fun!

4 February 2011 - Beetle Drive

There was a grand turnout for the evening and after a brief trial run the Beetle Drive "proper" was under way. Dice were flying and everyone was busily drawing beetles - the likes of which have not yet been discovered by David Attenborough!!!  Then the call of "BEETLE" It wasn't long before a break was called for and everyone enjoyed pancakes with a variety of fillings. Then back down to business. The overall winners were Steve & Gill with a tremendous score of 117. Well Done!

15 January 2011 - Cinderella

Leading Lights Pantomime Group have had a super season. Our version of Cinderella was very well received by all our four audiences with plenty of laughs and lots of singing. Back in October it was in doubt whether we would even be able to stage a pantomime as we were, for various reasons, very short of members but, with a lot of persuading and some arm twisting, we finally found a few new members and they proved to be real assets. Every one became a friend and this showed during the performances and which the audience soon picked up on.

We had very good audience numbers----- some coming from way out of the local area, having found the details on the internet. It was good to see some members from an old peoples' home in Liskeard, something which we have been trying to encourage for several years.

Back in the Autumn our Group voted that our charity support this year would be Cornwall Air Ambulance and we should be able to donate at least £400 to them when the final figure is decided at our A.G.M. in April.
We are always looking for new members of any age and those interested should contact me, Phyllis Harrison, on 01579-363635.
Leading Lights Pantomime Group will be holding a Quiz Evening on Saturday,19th March, doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30 start. We will charge £2 per head and will put you in a team of 4 or 5 if you don't already have a team.  All ages are welcome.  There will be nibbles on the tables and refreshments will be served during the interval.   Bring your own wine etc.,   There will also be a raffle and prizes for the winning team.
THIS IS A FUND RAISINGEVENT FOR THE VILLAGE HALL FUNDS

11 September 2010 - Dog Show

This year's Dog Show was well attended and the weather was very kind! Some excellent dogs were on show and the event raised much needed funds for the Hall. A big thank you goes to the organisers, helpers and of course the many dogs and their owners who took part.

21 August 2010 - Hall Gets a Face Lift!

A team of volunteers from the Committee and local community worked tirelessly to give the Hall a much needed face lift. New paint on the exterior walls, a new patio area, painted Gent's Toilets and other internal 'touch ups' have all contributed to improving the look and feel of the Hall. A big thank you goes to all who helped and of course the many people who have contributed financially - this enabled us to purchase the many materials used! Watch this space for further improvements!

14 August 2010 - Annual Horticultural Show

North Hill Village Hall's Annual Horticultural Show was a resounding success with over three hundred entries and an excellent attendance by the local community. The show was opened by Mrs Derry Maunder and the quality of entries was as high as ever.

The Show Committee would like to congratulate all the exhibitors whose efforts helped win comments from judges that the standard was higher than other shows they had attended. There is clearly, a lot of talent locally! A list of the trophy winners can be downloaded here.

The number of entries was about average for Vegetables, Flowers, Cookery and Photography, however, Handicraft and Children's classes were a little lower in numbers.

Congratulations to all the Class winners and Trophy winners and especially to Ann Randall who won the Maud Bartlett Cup for the best dahlia (a beautiful deep red cactus type), but who was not presented with the cup at the show due to an error recording the results.

We were lucky to have a more or less dry day, but not so hot and sunny that everyone went to the beach! The show was well attended during the afternoon and the refreshments team was kept busy. Thanks to all who bought raffle tickets and produce and whose generosity helped to support the Hall.

Finally, the Show Committee would like to express a big thank you to the large team of volunteers without whom the show would not happen.

A date for next year's diary - Saturday, 13 August 2011 where it will happen all over again!
